1958 CADILLAC ELDORADO SEVILLE
Chassis No. 63450
Black and grey with silver and grey interior.
Engine: V8, Carter carburettor, 4,980cc, 300bhp; Gearbox: four speed automatic; Suspension; front, coil springs and wishbones, rear, live axle with quarter elliptic leaf springs. Brakes: drums all round. Left hand drive.
The Eldorado Seville was the most prestigious two-door coupe Cadillac in the 1958 range. A development of the Series 62, the Eldorado was based on a tubular cross-frame that allowed the car to sit low and used a 6 litre V8 engine with hydraulic tappets that was common across the whole range, along with the usual four speed automatic transmission. The cars were facelifted for 1958 with new grilles, twin headlights and slightly less pronounced tail fins. Weighing in at nearly 5000lbs, the Eldorado coupe was produced in fairly limited numbers, just 855 cars being built in 1958.
This car has had its bodywork and mechanicals fully restored but the silver and grey fabric trim is original and still very good. Beautifully finished in black, the Eldorado drives well although it has a slight vibration from the automatic transmission. We are told that it was sold new in Switzerland and the indicated mileage now showing stands at 63,450kms. It comes with Swiss registration documents.
This imposing motorcar epitomised the all-American image of the fifties.
