THE SECOND EDITION, 'CONSIDERED THE BEST' though less rare than the first edition (Hill). This edition is a much expanded version of the first edition and was edited by John Coakley Lettsom. It contains the following additions to the first edition: 'a two-page "advertisement" by Lettsom; Fothergill's "Explanatory remarks on the preface"; a new double-hemisphere world map; a resumé of the voyages of Byron, Wallis, Carteret, and Bougainville; and an important early summary of Cook's second and third voyages.'
