Further details
This linked pair of columns were all that remained for Girault de Prangey to capture, in the 19th century, of the original sixteen columns that once stood. Considered as the ornamental gateway to Aphrodisias, the columns themselves are characterised by twisted spirals and were of great interest to the photographer. Photographing them ten times, from various angles, in this instance he focuses on a perspective from the west.
