Further details
These magnificent trees, emblematic of Lebanon, will have been photographed by Girault de Prangey at an altitude of at least 1400m -- the condition needed for the sacred cedar to germinate and develop. It is not surprising he was captivated by this subject, which historically has strong biblical associations and symbolic relevance. The extraordinary effect of solarisation gives added authority and mysticism to these grand cedars.
