Further details
An important pilgrimage site since the 4th century, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre stands on a site that encompasses both Golgotha, or Calvary, where Jesus was crucified, and the tomb (sepulchre) where he was buried. This close-up of the upper windows show a detail from the eastern façade of the church, built by the Crusaders sometime before 1180.
