This daguerreotype shows details of the stone carvings from the Tombs of the Kings, thought to house the members of the dynasty of David. This colossal tomb is usually considered the most magnificent of all those in the vicinity of Jerusalem. It had long been a popular subject for artists and became equally popular with photographers.
