Lot Essay

Louis-Denis Armand is recorded at Vincennes and Sèvres as a painter of birds, animals, landscapes and figures, 1745-1788. Formerly known as 'The Crescent Painter', his identity has only recently been confirmed. Prior to this realization, the name of Jean-Pierre Ledoux was formerly associated with the mark.
