Lot Essay

With its distinctive thyrsus and crossed branch clasps to the corners this table can be identified as a variant of François Linke's Index Number 461. A popular model, it is thought to have been produced from the late 1890s through to the early 1930s. The absence of a signature possibly indicates that this table was made for another atelier. For example, Linke is recorded as having made this model for Mercier Frères in 1901. Compare A Private Collection Volume I, Sotheby's New York, 26 October 2006, lots 47 and 222.
