Lot Essay

The engraver's marks on the back of this print illustrating how this print was to be spread across two pages indicate that this was the actual print used for a six-page spread in the September 1954 issue of U.S. Camera magazine. It was the first major article in the American press about Robert Frank and his work since his page in Life magazine in 1951 for winning a Young Photographer's prize.
