With octagonal sighted barrel with two line 'ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON', cylinder with stage coach scene, frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT', brass grip-strap and trigger-guard each retaining traces of original silvered finish, the former engraved 'CAPTN. H.R.C. GODLEY', varnished one-piece walnut grips, and matching numbers throughout, London proof marks

Lot Essay

Captain Henry R.C. Godley served in the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment in the Crimea where they won battle honours at Alma, Inkerman and Sevastopol. A photograph by Roger Fenton exists of Captain Godley during the Crimea campaign
