With belled two-stage brass barrel fitted with a spring bayonet beneath and mounted with a rib and two ramrod-pipes off-set to the left, border engraved action signed 'WATERS & CO.' on the right and 'PATENT NO. 397' on the left, border engraved thumbpiece safety-catch, figured flat-sided walnut butt, engraved iron trigger-guard with second trigger acting as the bayonet release, and later iron ramrod, Tower private proof marks
