Rectangular boat-shape form, moulded with the figure of a chubby baby asleep in his cradle, arms behind his head, feet crossed, four incised grooves on lower edge, circular vent hole on underside

Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the above figure comes from Taras. For similar babies from Rhodes and Taras cf. R. A. Higgins, Catalogue of the Terracottas in the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities British museum, 1970, pp. 72-73, nos 155-157 and p.345, no. 1268.
