CIRCA 4TH CENTURY A.D.
With band of rouletting around the shoulder, 7 in. (18 cm.) high; a Danish Neolithic flint blade, with finely worked serrated cutting edge, circa 2500-2000 B.C., 6 1/8 in. (15.5 cm.) long; and an English Paleolithic flint hand axe, 6 in. (15 cm.) long (3)

Item one: reputedly found at Colchester, Essex. Bateman collection, sold Sotheby's London, April 1893, lot 190 (reputedly Pitt-Rivers collection).

Lot Essay

Item one: with traces of red ink inscription on underside of foot reading "JU 93, LOT 190 SOTHEBY BATEMAN COLL...AISTOR WARE COLCHESTER P940 1856". Another indistinct separate paper label reads "...Roman British.....Found at Colchester...Collection 1956...Caistor Ware".
Item three: with ink inscription "Gartnall, Somerset".
