A SIIRT SILVER AND GOLD-INLAID BRASS CANDLESTICK
EASTERN ANATOLIA, FIRST HALF 14TH CENTURY
With waisted cylindrical body, gently sloping shoulder, cylindrical neck and mouth of tapering waisted form, the body finely engraved with a series of cusped cartouches containing scenes of courtly pleasure including hunting, music and drinking, bands of further, smaller cusped cartouches above and below, each containing a pair of various confronted real and mythological animals, each cartouche alternated with a small key-pattern roundel and against a ground of arabesque and scrolling vine, the shoulder, neck and mouth with similar cartouches, most inlay now missing
