A NASTA'LIQ QUATRAIN, SIGNED MUHAMMAD ZAMAN, SAFAVID IRAN, 16TH CENTURY AND LATER
Persian manuscript on paper, with 4ll. of black diagonal nasta'liq within cloudbands on a gold ground, signed below, with two smaller panels either side, border composed of small calligraphic alternating with floral panels, gold flecked margins, the reverse with a 19th century calligraphic panel (mashq) with later attribution to Darwish Hassan - panel 8 1/2 x 5 1/2in (21.5 x 14cm)

Lot Essay

Muhammad Zaman, originally from Kirman, is recorded as being a scribe of manuscripts and calligraphic pages. He died in AH 994/1585-86 AD. Two other undated pages by him are recorded (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol. III, Tehran, 1348 sh, p. 740).
