Lot Essay

Born in Alexandria in 1913, Mahmoud Moussa was one of the most important sculptors of the Second Generation of the Egyptian pioneers.
He sculpted in various media but especially in compact granite or marble, and his scultpures are reminiscent of ancient Egytian sculpture both in form and material. The present lot, sculpted in basalt, is unsual in his oeuvre.
