A GERMAN PARCEL-GILT TANKARD
Maker's mark of Berendt Knopf, Braunschweig, circa 1675
On circular domed and spreading base engraved with a band including a riverscape, church with meadows and a mill with village amongst foliage and flowers, the body engraved with three panels each with a biblical scene inscribed above either "Anno 1677" or "Anno 1676" and beneath with numerals, the domed cover finely engraved with flowers, stylised foliage, feathered wings, curled snakes and three panels engraved with landscapes amongst gilt flowers and foliage, with plain scroll handle and foliate scroll thumbpiece, marked on base
