Lot Essay

The present work was executed circa 1846 at the time of Homer de Hell's expedition to Persia, for which Laurens was the artist. The drawing is not of what is known as the Meydan at Trebizond, but of the Kavak Meydan on the way to Hagia Sophia, with Boz Tepe in the background.
