EDWARD DUNCAN (1803-1882) (LOTS 257-259) The painter and engraver Edward Duncan made at least eleven recorded visits to the Channel Islands during the decades of the 1830's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. During his time there he focused mainly on coastal scenes with particular emphasis on the local traditions such as the gathering of seaweed known as Vraicing and views of Mont Orgueil, a subject which he returned to again and again, a fine example of which can be seen in Lot 259. He was a prolific artist exhibiting over five hundred watercolours and drawings between 1830 and his death in 1882 at the Old and New Watercolour Societies alone.
