The tall square platform surmounted by a ferocious horned dragon standing four-square and with delicately incised long mane, the long inscription on the base now partially polished off and illegible, the stone of a pale grey tone

No other large jade seal of this colour from the late Ming period appears to be recorded. Compare a large grey jade seal dated to the early part of the Qing Dynasty but surmounted by two dragons, illustrated in jadeware (III), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Beijing, Hong Kong, 1995, p.3, pl.2.
