The flaring cup rising from a short recessed foot, each side finely cast with scenes depicting scholars and officials engaged in leisurely pursuits, the handles formed by sinuous chilong clambering over the mouth rim amidst lingzhi branches, the interior with a stylised shou character on a lotus bloom, the base incised with a seventeen-character inscription

Lot Essay

The inscription on the base reads:
'Xin shi Zhang Zhong Quan nan chi yong zhu ben fu cheng huang zun shen qian qin'.
This appears to be a devotional inscription by a monk called 'Zhang Zhong Quan'.
