The pear-shaped vases stoutly potted with rounded sides rising from a short gently-splayed foot, densely decorated with Daoist symbols and scholarly attributes amidst 'ball' flowers and bats in flight in white slip, the feet with a delicate lappet band, all reserved on a celadon ground

Two very similar vases are in the Collection of H. M. The Queen at Buckingham Palace: one is mounted in ormolu which is dated to circa 1823 (118cm. high), and the other is mounted in ormolu by B. Vulliamy which can be dated to the beginning of the 19th century (117 cm. high); both are illustrated by D. F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Chinesisches und japanisches Porzellan in europäischen Fassungen, Braunschweig, 1980, pl. 530, p. 450 and pl. 527, p. 448 respectively.
