This stand would probably have supported a standing figure or, alternatively, a famille verte Buddhist lion of considerable proportions. Two figures of ladies standing on similar stands are illustrated by John A. Pope, Porcelains in The Frick Collection, vol. III, New York, 1974, pp. 100-1, which were formerly in the Collection of J. Pierpont Morgan and exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1907.
