Lot Essay

This stag is based on the celebrated pair of chenet (the other with a boar) supplied by the marchand-fondeur Quentin-Claude Pitoin to Madame du Barry for her Salon at Fountainebleau, later placed by Louis XVI in his library at Versailles.
