A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A LATER JEWELLED PLAQUE
BY NICOLAS MARGUERIT (FL. 1763-1790), MARKED, PARIS, 1778/1779, WITH THE CHARGE AND DISCHARGE MARKS OF JEAN-BAPTISTE FOUACHE 1774-1780
oval box, the cover, side and base panels with translucent light grey-blue enamel on an engine-turned peaked reptile skin ground, within white enamel borders, the cover later applied with an oval translucent red enamel guilloché plaque set with a basket of flowers hung from drapery set with rose-cut diamonds within an enamelled border, the frosted gold borders enamelled with translucent green quatrefoils and red ovolos, the side pilasters similarly adorned and hung with translucent blue drapery
