slightly tapering rectangular étui-à-tablettes with arched top, of oblong section, all sides of cover and base of blonde tortoiseshell applied with alternating two-colour vertical bands of gold, within gold mounts stamped with ribbon-twist and flowers, obverse and reverse of cover applied with gold inscription 'SOUVENIR/D'AMITIE' within applied gold borders with laurel garlands and beckoning doves, the obverse of the base centred with an oval portrait miniature on ivory of a lady in a blue dress with pearls in her hair within a gold border stamped with flowers, foliage and beckoning doves, the reverse with similarly framed plaque containing gold initials on a grey silk background, the interior with three-leaved ivory tablets with gold rivet and gold-capped pencil
