Lot Essay

Walter McGeough Bond Esq. (1790-1866) took the additional surname and arms of Bond by Royal Licence in 1824. A barrister, he received a B.A. from Trinity College, Dublin and was High Sheriff of Armagh in 1819. The family house at Drumskill was left to his sisters should Walter marry and his sisters remain unmarried. He therefore built a new house, The Argory, overlooking the Blackwater River on land he had bought at Derrycaw. This was given to the National Trust of Ireland by a descendant in 1979.
