1974 HEITZ MARTHA'S VINEYARD
In 1966, Joe Heitz produced a wine so distinctive that the Heitz and May families (who own Martha's vineyard) added the name of the vineyard to the label, introducing Martha's Vineyard Cabernet as the first vineyard-designated wine in the Napa Valley. Since then, Martha's Vineyard has become one of the great Napa wines, and the 1974 is the most lauded. Finding a full case of it is nearly impossible.

Levels: six bottom neck, six top shoulder; one sign of old seepage, lightly bin soiled labels
"Next a superb magnum in January 2000, and nine months later faultless bottles: still deep, fairly intense; unmistakable eucalyptus nose; crisp, high extract, excellent flavour and length. Great wine. Last noted at a dinner hosted by Lord Rothschild in the Diary at Waddesdon Manor, Oct 2000 *****" MB, Vintage Wine
