This elegant console, with its relief-carved frieze of classical ornament including lion-masks and paterae, is typical of the work of Tuscan carvers of the 1780's and 1790's. Related consoles were delivered by the intagliatore Luigi Gelati to the Palazzo Pitti, Florence in 1798 (illustrated in E. Colle, I Mobili di Palazzo Pitti: Il primo periodo Lorenese 1737-1799, Florence, 1992, p. 141, cat. 68). A further related console is illustrated in W.
