The gilt-tooled light brown leather-lined rounded rectangular top above a panelled frieze drawer flanked by four mahogany-lined short drawers, one with coffre-fort and simulated as two, the sides fitted with writing slides, with simulated drawers to the reverse, flanked by rope-twist column supports, on fluted tapering legs with foliate caps, the frieze drawer lock engraved 'A.CHEVRIE Fabt 7 rue Debelleyme, Paris'

A. Chevrié worked in Paris in the late 19th century and is recorded at 11 rue Portefoin from 1878 until 1886. An ébéniste of high quality, he participated in the 1878 and 1889 Expositions Universelles, being awarded a silver medal at the latter. A member of the jury for numerous exhibitions, he also received the medal of the Légion d'Honneur in 1894.
A commode by Chevr<->é was sold very recently, Christie's, London, 23 September 2010, lot 53 (£17,500).
