CASE: the inlaid and glazed waisted case mounted to the front with a scene depicting the narrative of St George and the dragon, the interior inlaid with a trompe l'oeil floor, on scroll feet, scroll and foliate mounts and conforming inlay to the bracket DIAL: ormolu dial with individual enamel chapters, blued steel hands MOVEMENT: four vase pillars, single going barrel, converted to anchor escapement, pull quarter repeat on top-mounted bells (one lacking), the back plate signed 'Thiout A Paris'; pendulum

Most probably Antoine Thiout (b.c.1694-d.1761) who was appointed maître in Paris in 1724 and horloger du duc d'Orléans in 1751. In 1741/42 he published his famous 'Traité de l'horlogerie mécanique et pratique'.
