CASE: cast scroll handle to gilt-brass repoussé basket top depicting St George and the dragon, pierced wood frets over glazed side panels, later block feet DIAL: the 7 in. square dial with cherub mask spandrels to chapter ring signed 'H. Massy London', engraved date square, ringed winding holes and false pendulum to matted centre, strike/not strike to IX, replaced blued steel hands MOVEMENT: twin fusees, five pillars, restored verge escapement, rack strike on bell, re-instated pull quarter repeat on three further replaced bells

Henry Massy (Massey) is recorded as a brother in the Clockmakers' Company in 1692 and was working until at least 1704. Examples of his work are illustrated in Dawson, Drover and Parkes, Early English Clocks, Woodbridge, 1982, p. 297, pl. 422 and p. 455, pl. 666. A fine silver-mounted tortoiseshell table clock by him was sold Christie's London, 5 July 2002, lot 89 (£94,650).
