The circular plate in a reeded slip and a beaded gilt-metal foliate surround, surmounted by a leaf and berry wreath with snakes and a flambé finial and with trailing foliate swags, with two scrolled candle branches with associated glass nozzles and drip pans, and with a foliate apron with pendant pineapple, the nozzles stamped 14 and 16, losses, restoration and replacement to nozzles and drops

Deepdene was the country home owned by the connoisseur collector Thomas Hope. The house passed on his death in 1831 to his son Henry Thomas Hope and remained in the family until Lord Francis Hope-Pelham-Clinton was declared bankrupt. The majority of the collection was subsequently sold in 1917. It was this sale that sparked a revival of interest in the Regency style and at which the playwright Edward Knoblock bought some very fine furniture, establishing himself as one of the earliest and most influential collectors in the field.
