Royal Brighton Cricket Ground. England against Sussex. The Third Grand Match of Cricket will be played on the above ground, for 1000 Sovereigns, on Monday, the 23rd day of July, 1827, and following days. Printed handbill listing the two sides (some creasemarks and surface abrasion, slightly soiled), 255 x 197mm. Provenance: Jane Ireland (contemporary signature on verso).
RARE EARLY HANDBILL drawing public attention to the third game in a major series. There was an unusual dismissal: 'Broadbridge (Jas.), in the second innings of Sussex, threw his bat at a wide ball and was caught at point by W. Ward' (Ashley-Cooper, Sussex Cricket and Cricketers, p.89).
