'Nearly 8000 spectators including King George V and Queen Mary were present on the Centre Court to witness Suzanne capture her first singles title at Wimbledon by defeating Dorothea Chambers, seven times champion, in a tense duel lasting over two hours' (Alan Little, Suzanne Lenglen, 2007, p. 18). The next year she was not only to repeat her triumph, but also win the ladies doubles and the mixed doubles with Elizabeth Ryan and Gerald Patterson of Australia as her respective partners.
