Lot Essay

A number of dishes of this pattern are published: compare a dish in the S. C. Ko Tianminlou collection, illustrated in Chinese Porcelain, Part 1, Hong Kong, 1987, no. 80; another included in The Exhibition of Chinese Ceramics of Eight Dynasties, National Museum of History, Taipei, 1987, p. 86; one exhibited in The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, Hong Kong Museum of Art, November 1984-January 1985, no. 22; another in the Tokyo National Museum included in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, Tokyo, 1982, vol. 1, no. 158; and a pair sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 11 April 2008, lot 2918. The unusual double decoration can also be found on bowls, such as the example from the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, illustrated by He Li, Chinese Ceramics, A New Comprehensive Survey, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, 1996, pl. 614.
