A FINELY CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
Modelled seated with one leg crossed in front of the other, exposing the bare foot, one hand resting on a raised knee whilst the other is holding onto a scroll, raised at waist level, dressed in a voluminous robe falling in folds about the body, the head slightly tilted forward with hair swept back into a high chignon and covered with a cowl, finely incised with floral sprays against a ground of rolling waves
