The oval inkstone superbly carved in a combination of shallow relief and deeper pierced relief work with a bat in flight with its wings outstretched spanning the rim above the fruit laden branches of a peach tree, the leaves enveloping the undecorated well, the braches continuing over to the reverse, similarly carved with a bat in flight among the leafy branches, the bamboo veneer box echoing the decoration on the inkstone on the top and sides, embellished with a jade melon roundel above three large ripe peaches
