AN IMPERIAL EDICT
JIAQING, DATED TO 1800 AND OF THE PERIOD
Written in ink on paper mounted as a handscroll, the text arranged in standard form reading from left to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, instructing a general to do whatever is in his power to suppress any uprising in the Xinjiang frontier, ending with the date 4th year of Jiaqing, corresponding to 1800, stamped with two large seal impressions, continuing with further Manchu text, all contained within a wide border of dragons chasing 'flaming pearls'
