Delicately detailed in gold and silver with bats in flight among swirling clouds amidst Buddhist Emblems and peony sprays, the bottom right corner with a red eight-character seal reading Qianlong nian fang Mingren Dian zhi, 'Made in the Qianlong period, in imitation of paper used in the Hall of Intelligence and Benevolence of the Ming dynasty', mounted as a hanging scroll

Lot Essay

The Mingren Dian was a hall established in the Yuan Dynasty Imperial Palace. A similar sheet of pink-ground waxed paper decorated with ruyi with the same mark from the Palace Museum Collection, Beijing, was included in the exhibition The Life of the Emperor Qianlong, Macao Museum of Art, Macao, 2002, Catalogue no. 64.
