QIANLONG INSCRIBED YUTI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
Of characteristic cylindrical shape, well carved in standard script with an Imperial inscription describing the beauty of the jade, the neatness of the carving and the fine quality of the polish, all between key-fret borders, the stone of an even white tone with faint areas of russet inclusions
1 1/8 in. (2.9 cm.) diam., box
Provenance
Reputed to have been given to a military General by the Emperor Qianlong on the occasion of his retirement
Acquired by a European marine Captain serving in the Far East prior to his death in 1828
Thence by descent to the present owners

Lot Essay

The poem inscribed on the archer's ring is recorded in Qing Gaozong Yuzhi Shi (Imperial Poems of the Qianlong Emperor) vol. 2, p. 43, no. 8 and dated Qianlong gui you year, corresponding to A.D. 1753.
