Lady Constance Stewart Richardson (b. Constance Hay MacKenzie) was a famous athlete and suffragette who was strongly influenced by the dancing technique and stage presence of Isadora Duncan. She formed a dance troupe in London in 1913 which toured the United States from 1913 to 1919. Her work in the dance world caused a sensation, not only for her choreography and technique, but also because she was a member of the nobility performing scantily dressed. Other examples of this model, which continues to be one of Troubetzkoy's most famous works, are preserved at The Detroit Institute of Fine Arts and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. See G. Piantoni, P. Venturoli eds., Paolo Troubetzkoy 1866-1938, Turin, 1990, p. 211, illustration no. 171.
