2 volumes, 8o (215 x 130 mm). (Some light spotting.) Contemporary dark green straight-grained morocco, covers with blind-tooled borders and gilt central panels, spines in 5 compartments with 4 raised bands, gilt-lettered in two compartments, a repeated gilt panel in the rest, gilt edges concealing fore-edge paintings of BATTLE MONUMENT, BALTIMORE, and STATE STREET, BOSTON (joints rubbed). Provenance: Edith Taylor (bookplate); Estelle Doheny (her sale Christie's New York, 17 October 1988, lot 1329.)

Weber notes that in his experience, he has only seen fore-edge paintings added to the work of two American authors, including Irving. Weber p.127-128.
