Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers with single gilt fillet border, edges gilt concealing a fore-edge painting of A PORTRAIT OF GEORGE CANNING WITH THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT (some light rubbing and staining). Provenance: Estelle Doheny (bookplate; her sale Christie's New York, 21 February 1989, lot 1964).
Fourth edition. George Canning helped found the Anti-Jacobin, a newspaper which featured news and poetry which supported the government and condemned revolutionary doctrine.
