A ROMAN MARBLE RELIEF FRAGMENT
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Preserving two tragic theater masks, including a female to the left, her high coiffure plaited along the left side of her face, her open mouth downturned, the large eyes with the pupils hollowed, and a male to the right, his long hair upswept along his forehead, with a straight plaited beard, knitted brow and hollowed open mouth, the pupils and inner canthi deeply drilled, preserving a raised border along the right and bottom edge, an undulating serpentine motif below
