London March 6 1816' (on front blank; a futher note by the author, claiming a high success rate for his eye operations, on inserted leaf bound before the second work). 'Adams performed several operations in the hospital for seamen at Greenwich, and controversy raged for several years over whether they had been successful, and on the originality of his treatment' (ODNB).
