Cf. Sylvie Raulet, "Van Cleef & Arpels", Editions du Regard, 1986, page 311 for two watches of similar design

The "cadenas" or padlock design in lady's wristwatches entered the Van Cleef & Arpels repertoire in the early 1930s. It proved extremely popular and consequently these timepieces were produced until 1960. There exist many variations on the motif in coloured stones and sometimes in plain gold.
