Lot Essay

The sale of the collection of J.M. Evans, offered at Christie's King Street, 9 July 1889, included a number of other watercolours after works by important Old Masters such as Human and Divine Love by Titian, The Magdalene after Andrea del Sarto, and The Marchese Brignoli after Van Dyck.

The present watercolour was executed after the painting by Guido Reni in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow.
