This drawing shows a design for a costume for the character of Coco Chanel that never made it into the play. The vendor worked as Beaton's assistant at the Ray Diffen Costume House in New York during the production of Coco. Beaton won the 1970 Tony Award for Best Costume Design for his work on this production.
