Details
1981 FERRARI GTSi
Chassis No. 35491
Red with tan leather interior.
Engine: all aluminium vee-eight, double overhead camshafts to each bank, two valves per cylinder, four double choke Weber carburettors, 2927cc, 208bhp at 6600rpm; Gearbox: five speed manual; Suspension: front and rear, independent with upper and lower wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars; Steering: rack and pinion; Brakes: discs all round: Left-hand drive.
The 308 was the first in the successful series of mid-mounted, vee-eight engined Ferrari road cars with sparkling performance and phenomenal road holding. It was aimed at the market in which the Porsche 911 had such a strong foothold.
The first 308's, introduced in 1976, were the GTB (Berlinetta) version - the first 200 cars having fibreglass bodywork. Within two years a change to steel bodywork had been made and a GTS (Spyder) version was added. The 308 was a success; the exceptionally pretty Pininfarina bodywork and the transversely mounted vee-eight engine, free-running, apparently unbeatable yet docile in traffic, gave the car instant appeal. In 1980, a fuel injected version was introduced.
This GTSi has had its original fuel injection replaced by four double choke Weber carburettors returning it specification to one similar to the early 308's. It was originally sold in the USA and then imported into France but no more significant details of its history are known. The bodywork appears to be original and unrestored and the paintwork is very good except for some traces of corrosion starting on the sills. It has air-conditioning and radio. The original tan leather seat trim has some cracking. The indicated mileage is 24,168 miles and the car comes with French documents.
